The overly shiny object in the center is a quarter so that you have something to compare the opening to.  This is the pre-event skull that we did.  It turned out to be the one everyone looked at prior to starting on theirs.  Also I got pretty good with the felt pen for marking out the areas that needed to be removed for the motors.
This is a side by side view of two partially completed skulls.  The skull on the right is the pre-event skull and as you can see, we found out that it was not necessary to take out so much.  If the motor was mounted to the pvc after the jaw was in place, the hole did not have to be as large.  It was also possible to angle the pvc mounted motor into the hole (if you were talented enough).  You can see the marks on the nasal cavity (right skull) for future excavation.

This is the pre-event jaw that has already been mounted to the pvc.  I wish now that I had taken some pictures of Eric Sturgis' prop as he even put the hard lower plate with the red tongue back in his.  It looked wonderful.
